The metro, the backbone of the trip

Barcelona's metro is fast, clean and serves almost everything a visitor needs: eight lines crossing the city in half an hour and few-minute frequencies all day.

The lines you'll use

The green L3 crosses the old town and Montjuïc; the yellow L4 runs down to the beaches; L2 and L5 stitch the Eixample. With those four you cover ninety percent of any trip.

The hours that matter

The metro runs dawn to midnight, until two in the morning on Fridays and all night on Saturdays before holidays. Sundays start late: don't plan early Sunday transfers.

Access and strollers

The big stations have lifts and the transfers are color-signed impossible to miss. One ticket covers metro and bus: transfers count as a single journey within the established window.
